I am pleased to announce the appointment of Michael Haines as the new CEO for Westgate Ports.
Michael was previously with Toyota and brings with him a broad range of commercial and industrial experience.
Westgate Ports is being positioned within the Salta Group to become the pre-eminent link to the International Container Terminal. Our new 'web' based booking system with GPS tracking will provide a new level of service to our Import and Export Customers.

We are also gearing Victoria Dock to become the principal stevedore for break bulk cargo in accord with the Port of Melbourne Port Development Plan.
Appointment of Michael as new CEO is timed to coincide with the establishment of our purpose built 17,000 square metres warehouse on Victoria Dock comprising Customs, Fumigation and Cross-Dock facilities for immediate trans-shipment of goods unpacked from containers, as well as providing warehousing for later picking and delivery direct to our customers.
In the medium term, we are working to establish Inland Ports at both Altona and Lyndhurst which will provide further efficiencies, reducing truck movements in the inner city, resulting in less congestion, less carbon emissions and less pollution.
A new rail link to these Inland ports will become operational in late 2009 following completion of the grade separation between Footscray road and the Dynon Rail Yards.
Michael looks forward to meeting you in due course and working with you to meet the freight challenges posed by the projected growth in both imports and exports via the Port of Melbourne.
