The Victorian Government is considering implementing a vehicle levy for all trucks entering the container terminals at the Port of Melbourne. It will be similar to the Peak Period Pricing (PPP) being introduced in Sydney during the first quarter of 2010. However the Victorian Government is proposing a flat fee per vehicle regardless of whether it is a peak period for the terminal or not. The levy will be substantial (indications are approx $180 per truck movement) and would be charged in addition to the existing VBS charges.
The levy is intended to encourage carriers towards higher productivity vehicles, such as super b doubles and to promote the introduction of metropolitan container rail shuttles. Westgate Ports is uniquely positioned to provide clients with minimal impact from these changes. There is every likelihood that containers being moved to and from railheads, such as WGPS at Vic Dock could be exempt from the levy. This is still to be confirmed.
The intended start date is 1 July 2010.
DP World have advised an increase to import container storage charges. These increases will be effective as of 1st September 2009. WGPS can pay storage charges to the wharf on your behalf. A 10% administration fee is applicable. A copy of the new storage charges attached.
We would like to remind you that WGPS is a Customs 77G Bond Depot and 1.3 Approved Place for Quarantine:
